Growth Groups- The Finer Details

Our Process to Help You

What makes Growth Groups Unique?

Most small groups meet in person during the year. Our Growth Groups are small groups that don't meet in person- very often. We know everyone is busy and has a lot to do. The main purpose of the group is to help you do the things that lead to Spiritual Growth. There are some in person meetings. There are four meetings a year, between church services and any other days your group decides to get together.

What are the expectations of Growth Group Members?

  • You will read at least one chapter in the bible a day. The average time to read one chapter is less than five minutes. There are some that will take more than five minutes but on average, the time is very manageable.

One chapter a day is a good starting point. Eventually, you can do two chapters a day. Read one in the morning and one at night. Once you get in a habit of reading a couple of chapters a day, you can set the goal to read the bible, cover to cover, in one year. That sounds daunting but if you read four chapters a day, you will finish in a less than a year. You will be reading about 25 minutes a day on average.

  • Pray for five minutes a day. This time should be spent only in prayer (not while driving, shopping, while working out, etc) Not that you can't pray during these times. You should pray during those times.

Jesus would go off on His own and pray. He got away from distractions and focused on prayer. If it was good enough for Jesus, it is good enough for us. We still want you to pray throughout your day but it is good to have a part of the day focused just on prayer.

Recording your reading and prayer:

Each member is to record their prayer and readings on a google doc that the whole group uses. This has proven to be the hardest part for some people. There are many ways to do this. You can record on the google doc right after you read, you can record once a week. Or, you can send your readings via text or email to your group leader and they will record the readings on the doc for you. Finally, you can hand your group leader your readings and prayers on a piece of paper. While it is easier for your group leader to have you record your readings, they want to make this as manageable for you as possible.
